Run for a Reason: Live Brave 5K

Family running together

On Saturday, August 9, 2025, something powerful will take place at Colby Lake Park in Woodbury (just outside St. Paul, Minnesota). Runners will gather not just to move their bodies—but to take a stand. To say that every kid deserves to feel good in their body. To show up for those who are struggling. To run in honor of healing, prevention, and hope.

That’s what the 5th Annual Live Brave 5K is all about.

A Race Fueled by Purpose

What began five years ago with a mission to support youth mental health has grown into an inspiring yearly tradition.

The Live Brave event features:

  • A USATF-certified 5K at 8:30 AM
  • A community and competitive 1 Mile wave at 10:00 AM (kids 12 & under run free!)
  • The “Brave Challenge”, where participants complete both for a single fee
  • Fun for the whole family! Finish line food, refreshments, sponsor demonstrations, entertainment from DJ Ray Mills, and awards & prizes

All ages and abilities (from age 1 to 100) are encouraged to participate — whether running, walking, or cheering.

The Live Brave Fund

All race registrations and donations fuel the Live Brave Fund, housed at the Woodbury Community Foundation. These proceeds are directed toward youth eating disorder awareness, prevention, and recovery, including supporting WithAll.

This Fund specifically aims to raise $10,000 this year to back local nonprofits fighting eating disorders and promoting youth mental health.

A Story of Courage: Live Brave’s Founder

Co‑founded by Alice Halvorson, a survivor of an eating disorder, Live Brave was born from her passion to turn her experience into purpose. Her desire is clear: to nurture safer spaces for youth where conversations around bodies and food support resilience and recovery.

Alice and Live Brave co-founder Jeff Burkart spoke with WithAll’s Executive Director Lisa Radzak on The Fit Point Podcast, highlighting how “movement can support recovery” and the power of community to drive change.

“With movement, you connect mind and body—and that can be huge for recovery.” — Lisa Radzak, WithAll’s Executive Director

How WithAll Fits In

That same spirit of community and care extends to WithAll. In partnership, our “What to Say” initiative empowers adults (parents, coaches, teachers) to support kids in making healthy choices and developing positive body image.

Funding from Live Brave helps us grow that work and offer recovery grants to individuals facing financial barriers.

By partnering with Live Brave, WithAll:

  1. Expands prevention education—sharing resources and workshops for adults on healthier conversations about food, body & self-image.

  2. Supports recovery access grants, thanks to race fundraising via the Live Brave Fund.

Your participation—whether running, donating, or volunteering—directly fuels these efforts.

Come for the Mission, Stay for the Joy

Live Brave is about more than completing a race—it’s about celebrating what your body can do, not how it looks. Whether you run, walk, or cheer from the sidelines, you’re joining a community that values movement as a source of joy, connection, and strength. That message is powerful for kids and adults alike, especially in a culture that too often ties worth to appearance.

You’ll also enjoy:

  • Music & refreshment: DJ Ray Mills, sponsor tents, snacks, and swag bags at the finish line

  • Timing & prizes: Chip timing and team awards (including a $200 Visa gift card!)

  • A welcoming environment: Free registration for kids 12 & under, stroller-friendly, and fun for all ages

There’s joy in crossing the finish line together, healing in connecting with others, and meaning in knowing your steps support something bigger.
