The Anna Westin Fund

A Legacy That Makes Recovery Possible

The W and A in WithAll honor Anna Westin, whose story helped change how we understand eating disorders. Today, the Anna Westin Fund helps people stay in lifesaving treatment when financial barriers stand in the way.

Anna Westin

Anna Westin was deeply loved.

She was thoughtful, funny, bright, and full of possibility. Like many young people, she also struggled with an eating disorder — an illness that is still widely misunderstood, stigmatized, and dangerously under-treated.

In 2000, after years of fighting for her life, Anna died from complications of anorexia.

Her family’s world changed forever.

But instead of letting shame and silence define Anna’s story, Kitty and Mark Westin made the courageous decision to speak openly about what happened — and to fight so other families would not have to experience the same loss.

That decision sparked a movement.

Today, Anna’s legacy lives on through advocacy that has helped millions of people better understand eating disorders and through WithAll, an organization dedicated to helping people access recovery.

The W and A in WithAll honor Anna Westin — and the belief that recovery should be possible for all.

A Story That Changed the Conversation

When Anna was struggling, the Westin family quickly learned a painful truth:

Getting treatment for eating disorders is incredibly difficult.

Insurance barriers, stigma, and a lack of understanding often delay or prevent people from receiving the care they urgently need.

After losing Anna, Kitty and Mark chose to turn unimaginable grief into action.

Their advocacy helped drive national change, including legislation like the Anna Westin Legacy Act, the first national legislation related to eating disorders, which strengthened mental health parity and insurance coverage for eating disorder treatment.

But their work didn’t stop there.

They founded the Anna Westin Foundation, now WithAll, as a way for Anna’s story to directly support people in recovery.

The Anna Westin Fund

Each year, 20% of WithAll’s Recovery Support Program grants are awarded from the Anna Westin Fund.

This special fund was created by Kitty and Mark Westin in honor of their daughter, Anna, who died in 2000 from an eating disorder.

Anna’s spirit and Kitty and Mark’s resolve motivate us daily to fulfill our mission to reach as many people as possible who need support as they work to recover from an eating disorder.

Through this fund, Anna’s legacy helps people who are currently in intensive eating disorder treatment cover essential living expenses.

Because recovery requires more than clinical care.

It requires stability, nourishment, and support.

What Your Gift Can Do

Eating disorders have one of the highest mortality rates of any mental illness.

Even when someone is admitted to treatment, many face impossible choices:

Do they stay in treatment or pay rent?
Buy groceries or focus on recovery?

WithAll helps remove those barriers.

Through strong partnerships with treatment centers, our Recovery Support Program provides financial grants so individuals can stay in intensive treatment without worrying about basic living expenses.

Unfortunately, each month we must turn away applicants because funding is limited.

That’s why the Anna Westin Fund is so important.

Your support makes recovery possible.

  • $18 Provides one day of groceries to an individual with a life-threatening eating disorder.
  • $36 Provides one day of housing support to someone seeking intensive treatment.

“Before treatment, my life was seemingly hopeless.

More than anything this grant helped me realize that people truly care out there. With the WithAll grant, I was able to buy groceries without any stress whatsoever and stay in treatment for the time I’ve needed.

It has truly saved my life.”
